Have a wonderful vacation week!
Our Olympic Games were super fun this morning! Ask your child which event he or she competed in. I got a few pictures... check out the photo gallery! I've been adding pictures of all the fun things we do!

We had a fun camp day today! We set up a tent and took turns reading in it! We also got to see some very cool projects today - the third grade state parade floats and the fifth grade national park projects. So cool!
We started learning about analog clocks today, focusing just on the hour hand for now. Talk to your child about how you keep track of time!
We worked hard today! We finished Everyday Math Unit 5 today, so students were able to bring home their Math Journals! There are pages that we did not get to that can be done at home for practice. There are also activity sheet pages that you can use at home to play some of the math games your child has learned here at school. Enjoy! In literacy, we practiced long a spelling patterns, learned about the difference between using WAS or WERE in a sentence, and we wrote about the story "A Tale of a Tail." We also logged onto laptop computers in our classroom this afternoon!
We made a birthday book for Zachary today, and we wrote thank you notes for the Historical Society volunteers. Today we also began a new Wonders unit - all about animals! Students were able to take home an older edition of our "key" book to keep! This is the last key book of the year, as it encompasses the last three units of study. Read "A Tale of a Tale" tonight with your child!
The fun never ends at NBCS! This week the PBIS Committee has teamed up with Student Council for what we hope will be a fun filled Spirit Week!
Theme Days: Monday- NBCS Pride Day (Students may wear blue and/or yellow.) Tuesday- Animal Print Day/Stuffed Animal Day (Students may bring ONE stuffed animal small enough to fit in the backpack.) Wednesday- Tropical Day (Students may wear tropical clothing - but still need to be dressed appropriately for our NH weather!) Thursday- Camp Day (We'll explore the great outdoors… for real or virtually... students may dress like campers!) Friday- Parade of Nations Pep Rally (Our class will be representing Mexico. Students may wear green and/or red.) One week until winter vacation!!! We'll make it a fun one!!! What a wonderful day we had! We delivered Valentines, made and enjoyed a Friendship Snack Mix, played inside for recess, went to the Historical Society with our buddies, had lunch in the classroom, exchanged books in the library, had a blast at the Kids' Heart Challenge, and enjoyed a special breakfast snack at the end of the day!!! The kids were sooooooo well-behaved all day long! I LOVE this class!
We had a short but productive day! We practiced our fluency in reading groups, we worked on scrolling numbers, we did some assessments, and we played math games! The students were so well-behaved that they even filled their rock jar once again!!! (Reward to be determined...)
Tomorrow is a big day for us! Please remember to send in valentines, a valentine box or bag, and the clean and carefully counted 100 little snacks for our special Friendship Snack Mix. We are visiting the Historical Society tomorrow, so please make sure your child has winter gear for the walk downtown. We also have the Kids' Heart Challenge in the afternoon, so your child will need sneakers. Thank you!!! Today we read a lot about where our food comes from. What's for dinner tonight at your house? Perhaps you could chat with your child about the ingredients and where they came from!
Happy 100th day of school! We had a blast today - counting, creating, and celebrating. We did a whole booklet of 100th day activities, we created a picture using a one and two zeroes, and we worked with a partner to do 100 jumping jacks! We did NOT get to our spelling pretest, so feel free to do the pretest routine at home tomorrow. I also sent home your child's Magic E Kit, so your child can practice changing short vowel words to long! NO SCHOOL TOMORROW! VOTING DAY! Today we continued to read about life long ago versus life today. Ask your child about it! Talk with your child about what life was like when you were young! Happy Weekend!
Today we worked on some nonfiction animal writing. Your child chose an animal from "The Nice Mitten" story, and is doing research to find some interesting facts about that animal. What did your child learn about his or her animal today?
We added to our magic kits today! The students have been using their kits to practice the magic of silent e. They have cards that say not and cub, but with their magic e wands, students can change the vowel sound of each word so that the vowel says it's name - note and cube!
Today we started learning about what life was like long ago and comparing that to life today. We also did an activity that helped students understand how the sun changes positions in the sky during the day. Ask your child to tell you the story about Doug using the sun to go to his friend's house and back!
Happy February!!! For those of you prepping early for Valentine's Day, you can click on the document below for our plan and a class checklist. A hard copy will be sent home on Monday.
