The Science Squad has been busy being true scientists! Today we opened up some chicken eggs to see all of the parts inside. Students have learned that an egg has to be fertilized and incubated in order to have a chick grow inside. Yesterday we candled the eggs that are in our incubator... ask your child what he or she saw inside!
Our Memorial Day program is tomorrow morning at 9:00. Children may wear red, white, and/or blue to show support for our country and our veterans. Thank you!
Ask your child about Memorial Day and why we celebrate this national holiday. Enjoy the 3 day weekend!
We had a long but lovely Community Meeting this morning. We are so proud of Marion, Charlotte, Evelyn, and Peyton for presenting their stories up on stage! We had library/read aloud time in the classroom today, as the library was closed for testing. Mrs. Charles read us stories about oviparous animals. Ask your child what that means! We will have time tomorrow to exchange our library books.
Moving on... from ocean to eggs! Today we put 7 chicken eggs into an incubator in our classroom. We will be monitoring the eggs, learning about the chicken life cycle, and eagerly awaiting for our chicks to hatch in 21 days.
Thank you so much to all of you parents for packing everything that the kids needed to have a fun day at the rocky shore! Thank you to the chaperones for all of your help and for sharing your knowledge! We wore our new Science Squad T-Shirts while we were there, and I collected them back so we can use them again before the school year ends. If your child brought his or her t-shirt home by mistake, please send it back in. Thank you!!
Thank you to everyone who came to the Open House last night!
We are heading to Odiorne Point on Monday! Please pack everything that was on the list sent home. Chaperones - pack all of those things for yourself too! If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me. Enjoy the weekend! See you at 5:30 tonight for Open House! We can't wait!
Our Wish House is up!!! (And pictured above!) We are so proud of all the wish flags waving in the breeze! We can't wait to show parents at our Open House/Culminating Event which begins at 5:30 on Thursday evening. See you there!
We started our Rocky Shore unit! We will be learning about the tidepool habitats and all of the plants and animals that live there. Today we read A House for Hermit Crab by Eric Carle, and we started making our own hermit crabs!
We had a lovely day today! We were back to "normal" routines: A full math lesson about helper facts, new spelling words and high frequency words, new reading group books, and a lot of awesome bobcat behavior!
Thank you to everyone who sent in a permission slip for our Odiorne trip. If you did not send one in for your child, please do so ASAP. Thank you! We had some awesome Reader's Theater performances today! Ask your child about them!
We made wish flags today! Your child is bringing a wish flag home for homework. We are asking that you write a family WISH, DREAM, or BELIEF on the flag and send it back to school by Monday the 14th. Thank you!
Also, information and a permission slip is going home today for our Odiorne Field Trip . Please sign and return the permission slip as soon as possible. Thanks again! The students saw yet another show this morning, written and performed by our 5th grade friends. We also had Art today and buddy time. Tomorrow we have Artist in Residence time in the morning! We are getting excited about our culminating event/Open House next Thursday the 17th!
We were so inspired by the show yesterday that we are preparing our own plays during reading groups this week! Students got their scripts today and are practicing. This afternoon we had some lovely observation time outside. Ask your child about what he or she saw, smelled, heard, and felt in the garden today!
We had a wonderful time at the theater today! The students were so well-behaved, and the Junie B show was hilarious! Ask your child about it!
We are so excited to see a production of Junie B. Jones at the Stockbridge Theater in Derry tomorrow!!! We will be eating snack on the bus and lunch at the facility, so all students will need a packed snack and lunch for tomorrow! (No glass, please!) Also, as we are visiting a theater and representing our school out in the world, we ask that students dress nice. Your child should wear something that is comfortable, but please avoid sweatpants or clothes with holes or stains. 😉 Thank you!!!
