Thank you for a wonderful year!
We made ice cream today!!! It was so fun and so delicious! We used the recipe and instructions from this site:
https://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Make-Homemade-Ice-Cream-in-a-Bag/ We also finished our First Grade Portfolios today! Your child is bringing home his or her binder of memories. This binder includes comparison pages so you can see how much some of your child's skills have improved since September. Enjoy! What an awesome field day we had! The weather was perfect, and the students had a blast. Thank you, volunteers!
We took a trip down memory lane today! We went through pictures of our school year, and we created memory pages to include in the portfolios we made.
Tomorrow is our field day!!! Please send children to school with water bottles and with sun screen and sneakers on their bodies! Thank you! We started creating First Grade Portfolios today! I can't wait for parents to see these awesome keepsakes that show the amazing growth and the fond memories of our first grade year.
Tomorrow is our BBQ day! That means any student may get hot lunch for free if he or she so chooses. What a day!! It was soggy, but very fun! We found and observed so many cool tidepool creatures, like crabs, urchins, periwinkles, dog whelks, hermit crabs, and lobsters! We also saw a HUGE variety of beautifully colored seaweed and algae.
Thank you so much, parent volunteers! We couldn't have done it without you! We are looking forward to a wet but wonderful day at the rocky shore tomorrow! Another checklist went home today. Make sure your child has a rain coat as well!!! Thank you !
We are so excited for our field trip to the rocky shore next Tuesday!!! Today we created a Rocky Shore book, and we learned about barnacles and plankton. Students need to be prepared for the rocky shore trip... be sure to pack all of the items on your child's checklist. It looks like rain on Tuesday, so plan on packing a raincoat too! Here's the checklist info, in case it got lost in the end-of-year madness: Field Trip Checklist Reminder for Students and Chaperones If you have packed these items, you are ready to go! IN A BACKPACK (Please fit everything in their backpacks):
ON YOUR BODY:
* * * It may be warm in New Boston the morning of the trip, but it is ALWAYS much cooler by the water. I was soooo proud of the Shining Diamonds this morning! Our class rocked at the last community meeting of the school year!
This afternoon we had the culmination of our spring reading challenge. All of the classes met or exceeded their goals (our class read 453 books in 2 months!!!), so we all went down to the town hall ball field and enjoyed some reading time. We sat on blankets in the sunshine and read together, along with some community helpers! Ask your child about it! Today we learned about sea stars (aka starfish). Ask your child how sea stars eat!
We learned about hermit crabs today! We read both fiction and nonfiction texts about hermit crabs, and we observed the ones in our classroom. What does your child know about hermit crabs?
