We made ice cream today!!! It was so fun and so delicious! We used the recipe and instructions from this site:
We also finished our First Grade Portfolios today! Your child is bringing home his or her binder of memories. This binder includes comparison pages so you can see how much some of your child's skills have improved since September. Enjoy!
What an awesome field day we had! The weather was perfect, and the students had a blast. Thank you, volunteers!
We took a trip down memory lane today! We went through pictures of our school year, and we created memory pages to include in the portfolios we made.
Tomorrow is our field day!!! Please send children to school with water bottles and with sun screen and sneakers on their bodies! Thank you!
We started creating First Grade Portfolios today! I can't wait for parents to see these awesome keepsakes that show the amazing growth and the fond memories of our first grade year.
Tomorrow is our BBQ day! That means any student may get hot lunch for free if he or she so chooses.
What a day!! It was soggy, but very fun! We found and observed so many cool tidepool creatures, like crabs, urchins, periwinkles, dog whelks, hermit crabs, and lobsters! We also saw a HUGE variety of beautifully colored seaweed and algae.
Thank you so much, parent volunteers! We couldn't have done it without you!
We are looking forward to a wet but wonderful day at the rocky shore tomorrow! Another checklist went home today. Make sure your child has a rain coat as well!!! Thank you !
We are so excited for our field trip to the rocky shore next Tuesday!!! Today we created a Rocky Shore book, and we learned about barnacles and plankton. Students need to be prepared for the rocky shore trip... be sure to pack all of the items on your child's checklist. It looks like rain on Tuesday, so plan on packing a raincoat too!
Here's the checklist info, in case it got lost in the end-of-year madness:

I was soooo proud of the Shining Diamonds this morning! Our class rocked at the last community meeting of the school year!
This afternoon we had the culmination of our spring reading challenge. All of the classes met or exceeded their goals (our class read 453 books in 2 months!!!), so we all went down to the town hall ball field and enjoyed some reading time. We sat on blankets in the sunshine and read together, along with some community helpers!
Ask your child about it!
Today we learned about sea stars (aka starfish). Ask your child how sea stars eat!
We learned about hermit crabs today! We read both fiction and nonfiction texts about hermit crabs, and we observed the ones in our classroom. What does your child know about hermit crabs?
We read about people who help us this week, so today we made thank you cards for someone who helps us. We also learned about the summer reading program at the town library. Information went home in your child's folder. Enjoy the weekend!
Once again, I was sooo proud of the Shining Diamonds for their respectful behavior! Ask your child about the Memorial Day Program that we had this morning.
Today we wrapped up our oviparous animal unit, and we are getting ready for the final science unit of the year - the rocky shore! Please look for a permission slip that went home today for our field trip to Odiorne Point!
Today we learned more about Memorial Day. Students brought home a Memorial Day paper book. Have your student read the book to you! Talk with your child about what Memorial Day means to you and your family. If possible, have your child wear red, white, and/or blue for the Memorial Day Program tomorrow!
We had so much fun at Pete the Cat - the Musical!! The NBCS students were the most well behaved of all the kids there! I was so proud of the safe, respectful, and responsible behavior!
We have been reading lots of Pete the Cat stories this week, to get pumped up for our trip to the theater on Tuesday! We are so excited to see Pete the Cat - the Musical!
Today was our last day with the chicks. Big thank you to the Campbell family for giving them a happy home!
Today we had our last Social Thinking session with Ms. Dana, and students reflected on their own behaviors. They thought about their "Unthinkable Team," and how to defeat them. Talk with your child about it!
We also did a VERY fun activity this afternoon called Chick Town! Ask your child about it!
Today in math, we worked on mentally adding sets of tens to numbers. For example, now students are expected to know that 32 + 10 = 42 because they add one ten in the tens place. Can your child add multiples of ten to a number?
55 + 20? 48 + 30? Try it out!
We are happy to have 4 healthy chicks in our classroom this week! They hatched on Sunday, but I was able to get video so all students were able to see the magic! Today each student was able to hold a chick! It was awesome!! Ask your child about it!
We worked on telling time again today, we worked on computers in the library, and we candled our eggs again. We are getting so excited for hatch day! We HOPE chicks will start to hatch on Monday!
We learned about telling time to the half-hour today! Talk with your child about telling time!
