Today’s Skills:
- Problem and Solution
- Reading and spelling words with the patterns, ou, ow (Families, please place higher emphasis on reading these words than spelling these words. This is a very tricky pattern! Making 2 sets of spelling word cards and playing "Memory Match" is a great way to practice reading the words!)

Everyday Math
Lesson 8-2
Today’s Skill: Dividing shapes into two equal shares and discuss how to name the shares.
Note to parents: Today and tomorrow students will learn about halves. In first grade, students name one share as half, one half, one out of two parts, or one out of two shares. The focus in grade 1 is using words and pictures to describe equal shares. Fractional notation (½) will be introduced in later grades. Next week we will continue our fraction work, learning about fourths.
