Optional Origami: Lissy’s friends were created by using a craft called Origami. Origami is a tradition for many people in Asia. Read the paired text (Making Paper Shapes) to learn how to make a dog, and then try it on your own! You could try to make a bird and a cat too!

Lesson 9-5 Vending Machine Addition and Subtraction
Today’s Skills: Apply a variety of strategies to add and subtract 2-digit numbers.
Go to Lesson 9-5 and click on Boxes: 2 (discuss the Math Message with someone at home), 5 (Math Boxes), and 6 (Home Link).
*Note for parents: Students are familiar with 2 different tools that can help them solve problems with 2-digit numbers - Base Ten Blocks (build the numbers with longs and cubes, then add or subtract) and the Number Grid (find one of the numbers on the grid, then count up or count back).
