On Friday, our class will take part in an new program:
"The Town of New Boston and the Forestry Commission will work with the First Graders, planting Christmas trees. They have set aside land off of Old Coach Road for the project and will provide volunteers. The town will purchase the saplings each year. The plan is to have two homerooms at a time be bussed to the location for planting. Each child will plant 1-2 trees (labeled as their tree) and each year will go back to care for it and learn how to prune and shape into a Christmas tree. When they are sixth graders they can choose to continue to let it grow or cut it for their Christmas tree."
Permission slips for this trip will go home on Monday! PLEASE look for this, sign, and return it to school ASAP so your child can join our class on Friday!
Students will be learning about evergreen trees this week. Talk with them about the difference between evergreen trees and deciduous trees. Go one a tree walk, looking closely at needles and cones if you can!
On Wednesday, May 2nd, we will begin our residency with artist, Mark Ragonese! We will be making "Wish Flags" to be hung in the school garden. Our class is scheduled to meet with Mr. Ragonese from 8:30 to 9:20, and we would love some parent volunteers for this session. A note was sent home last week with volunteer sign up information. Students will be dying fabric outside in the garden that day, so please do not have students wear their best clothes, as they may get dirty or even stained. Have conversations with your child about his or her wishes and dreams!
Jump Rope for Heart is on Thursday this week, so please have your child wear proper clothing and footwear for jumping that day. Send in any paperwork you may have for this by Thursday.
It looks like the temperatures will rise this week. (Finally!)
Please make sure your child has a water bottle at school each day to stay hydrated!
Thank you so much for all you do at home to support your first grader!!!
