We broke bread with our 5th grade learning buddies today! Our buddies made bread, and we made butter!! Ask your child about it!
With such a short week, we do NOT have new spelling words this week. We will continue with Unit 2, Week 3 of the Wonders program next week.
Today in science we learned that turkeys stay with their mothers for about a year after they hatch. They follow mom around and copy what she does. Why do baby animals like poults and ducklings follow their moms around?? Ask your child about it! We have completed our Pilgrim Poem Pumpkin Pouches! (A mouthful, I know!)
They're so cool! Next week, we will practice reading our poems. Students will bring home their pumpkin pouches to entertain their families over Thanksgiving. Happy Weekend! It's conference season! Thank you to all the families that have already signed up for a parent-teacher conference. If you have not yet signed up, please do so through Sign-Up Genius, or send me an email to schedule a time. Thank you!!!
We had our first Community Meeting of the school year today! Ask your child about it! Today we talked about Thanksgiving traditions. What kinds of Thanksgiving traditions does your family have? We are learning a poem about Pilgrims, and we are creating another storytelling kit!
We are really enjoying Jan Brett's story The Three Little Dassies. Ask your child to retell the story to you! What materials did the dassies use to build their homes?
Today we started learning about the ZONES of Regulation, which is a program we will be piloting to help students regulate their energy levels and emotions. A letter went home today in your child's folder, explaining the curriculum and providing some language that will enable you to discuss self-regulation at home with your child.
It was a lovely Friday! We ended the day with some nice reading time with our 5th grade learning buddies. Enjoy the weekend!
We did a lot of writing today! Students wrote about a special person in their lives, and they were challenged to tell as much as possible about him or her. Who did your child write about?
Today we read a story called Decibella and Her Six Inch Voice, and we practiced making good choices for our voices. We started a new Wonders unit today, all about community! The "key" book was replaced with grant money, so once again, I sent home a copy of it for your child to keep. This is so lucky! Students can use that book at home to practice all of the skills we are working on at school.
With the weather getting wintery, students have more and more items to keep track of here at school. PLEASE make sure your child's name is in all hats, mittens, etc. It is also a good idea to practice putting on and taking off snow clothes efficiently! What a week! What a show! What a wonderful group of kids and parents!
Enjoy the long weekend. For any military members out there, thank you for your service! We rocked this morning! I was so very proud of the kids for their patience (we sat for a looooong time in the gym because we has a rehearsal before the rehearsal) and for their enthusiasm during the performance. See you all tonight in the classroom at 6:00! Then our show starts in the gym at 6:30. At the end of the show, students will come back to the classroom and you can pick them up there. Thank you!
We had a wonderful presentation today by Josie's grandfather! He shared his knowledge of Mexico, taught the students about how Latin America is a melting pot of cultures, sang a fun Mexican sing-a-long song, and he played some Spanish guitar for us! So cool!
Tomorrow is our big day! Please send your child to school in black (or just dark) pants. I am looking forward to seeing all of you for Open House in the classroom at 6:00 pm! We had a blast again today, singing and dancing. Have you heard your child singing the catchy tunes we've been learning for our show?
This afternoon, we observed worms once again, this time focusing on how worms move. Ask your child what he or she noticed about how worms move their bodies! We are so psyched for our show! This morning we met Julie the drummer, Kathy the singer, and Roberta the dancer. We had a blast learning songs, rhythm, and movements with them! Ask your child about it!
Today we celebrated the Dia De Los Muertos with our 5th grade learning buddies by doing a science exploration of our skulls (Ask your child - Why do we have a skull?). Then we beautified the paper skulls we created with lovely designs! There are plenty of pictures in the gallery. Check them out!
