We helped our community this morning by delivering lots of food to the food pantry! Thank you to everyone who donated items!!
Thank you to everyone who responded to my request for brown bags... We're all set now! We had a fun challenge with our 5th grade learning buddies today. Students worked together using cups to create the tallest "tree" possible. Ask your child about it! We worked on measuring skills in math this morning. During our literacy time, we read several books by Mo Willems, and we learned how to draw some of his characters.
Today we revisited what it means to be a peacemaker. Ask your child what he or she can do to spread peace!
We made cinnamon ornaments - our room smells lovely! Today we also revisited our friend Pete the Cat! We read Pete the Cat Saves Christmas, and we learned what it means to "give it your all!"
Check your child's folder today! Report cards went home!
We played BINGO with our spelling words and high frequency words today. The class did an excellent job with all of the tricky spelling patterns this week. They are hard workers! Next week we will take a break from our Wonders program and focus on holiday projects. We saw an awesome show this morning! The 3rd graders performed a pirate holiday show. Ask your child about it!
The readiness and first grades would like to help our community by having a small food drive. Please check your child's folder for a yellow sheet! It is a permission slip as well as a request for specific items that are needed at the food pantry. We plan to walk the items down to the food pantry (in the center of town) next Friday the 21st. Our Learning Buddy time today was fun! We read some holiday stories and then made "Where's Santa?" pictures, similar to Where's Waldo?
We started Everyday Math Unit 4 today. We are learning how to measure with objects, such as paperclips or toothpicks. We learned a rhyme to help us measure carefully: To find the length of your desk or your friend, use the same unit from end to end. Measurement will be a snap if you never gap or overlap!
We are learning about maps this week! We read the story Me On The Map by Joan Sweeney, and we even started making our own Me On The Map books. Talk to your child about how you use maps to help you find your way around.
Today was all about PEACE. We read I Am Peace: A Book of Mindfulness and The Peace Book by Todd Parr. We painted peace plates and wrote about what peace means to us. Ask your child about it!
Today we read with our 5th grade buddies and taught them how to make paper snowflakes. We also learned about "mindfulness" through some videos on the class dojo. We will have our spelling test tomorrow, as we have no school on Friday!
We reached our dojo goal!!! We have now earned over 7,000 points since the beginning of the school year! To celebrate, we will have some extra indoor recess time tomorrow!
Today we read Five Minutes ' Peace by Jill Murphy, and we continued to discuss what peace is and how we can be peacemakers. What does peace mean to you and your family? Today we read about Martin Luther King, Jr. and we discussed ways that we can be peacemakers in our community.
