We had such a fun Halloween week! We had the spider obstacle course in gym, we carved a class jack-o-lantern and counted the seeds, we made retelling sliders for our favorite Halloween read-aloud (Big Pumpkin), and we wrote our very own Halloween books! The parade and party were so fun. We tried our homemade mint tea and enjoyed lots of treats from our generous families! Thank you!!! Also, thank you to everyone who has signed up for a conference with me. I am looking forward to chatting with all of you!

Hello Friendly Fox Families,
I hope you are all well! Last week was a long one - I found that the kids were done by Thursday. We are building our stamina and trying our best to make the most of our days here at school. We are working on showing respect and patience with our teachers and friends and keeping our hands to ourselves. We had fun playing new math games and writing letters to our friends. For Wild Wednesday we read the book Leaf Man by Louis Ehlert and then collected leaves and other natural materials to create nature collages inspired by the story. On Friday we attended Michaelmas, which can be quite overwhelming and confusing for many first graders, but I was proud of how well the Friendly Foxes did! Today was a great day for the Friendly Foxes! Our behavior was respectful and responsible, and we had lots of fun. We skipped a spelling test today. (We will go back to the blends and double-consonant-endings later in the school year.) We danced to our new favorite song - Believer - a few times. We explored with dominoes, played a math game called BUMP, and started a new class book inspired by the book Ten Apples Up On Top. For science, we observed how worms move! Ask your child about it! This week we learned about diagrams too, so we did some tracing and labeling of our bodies outside on the blacktop. We loved planting bulbs on Wild Wednesday, and we enjoyed the Fire Safety presentation. Be sure to check out Seesaw for pictures of our adventures! Hello Friendly Fox Fans,
This week we have begun our 2nd unit of the Everyday Math program, and we have been working hard on finding pairs of numbers that add to ten. If we can memorize these "ten friends," they can help us to solve other math facts efficiently. We did lots of reading and writing about pets, and we worked on a tricky l-blend spelling pattern. For Wild Wednesday this week, the students had a special challenge: paint without paint! They used flowers and leaves to paint nature pictures! So cool! We started learning about pumpkins, their parts, and their life cycle too. Yesterday students went home with their McGraw Hill codes. They can access our Wonders and Everyday Math programs from home! Today students have Scholastic Book Club catalogues in their folders. If you would like to order books, please do so online. You can get set up on the Scholastic page here on my website. I have been very proud of the Friendly Fox's behavior this week! We enjoyed a Stuffy Day as a reward, and we had some extra recess today too! Happy Weekend, Jess Willard |
