Hopefully your child has shared with you some of the excitement we've had in our classroom this week. The chicks started hatching on Monday, and we were here to witness the magic! We had a camera on the incubator and screen-shared onto the big screen, so all of the students could see the details of several hatches from start to finish. So cool! Yesterday it was warm enough to bring the chicks outside to the garden and watch them explore. We learned how to handle them and took turns holding them. I will be posting pictures to Seesaw for you to enjoy!
Earlier this week, students brought home their "fiction chicks" (the felted chicks my good ol' mom made). Each student also took home a published book about their chick. If you haven't checked it out, please do! Your children were soooooo proud of their published books! We have also been doing Reader's Theater performances about oviparous animals. Your child likely took home a script from his or her performance. These little shows have been so fun to watch. The students are working on their fluency and expression as they read their lines.
Specials Update: Our last special of the year is MUSIC. So your children can wear any footwear they'd like on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Library Update: All books are due back to school by June 1st.
Conferences: If I have not connected with you for an end-of-year chat and you'd like to discuss your child's first grade progress, please reach out!
Tomorrow we will have a Memorial Day program here at school. We have been learning about this holiday in our classroom, and we are making paper poppies as a symbol of respect for fallen soldiers. Please talk with your child about this holiday, the military, and what it all means to your family. If children would like to wear red, white, and/or blue tomorrow, they are welcome to!
