This week we have been practicing and performing plays. The kids knocked my socks off with their reading fluency and expression as they acted out one of our Wonders stories called, "Time to Plant." I will post the videos of our performances on Seesaw for you to enjoy.
Each student started some mystery seeds on Monday/Tuesday. Students are caring for their seeds independently. They are observing their seeds and recording their observations. Ask your child if his or her seeds have sprouted yet!
We also started Number Scrolling this week! Students are writing their numbers.... and they'll keep on going! Many students have gotten to 100 or beyond. How far has your student gotten on his or her number scroll??
Students brought home their Handwriting Workbooks yesterday and today. We learned about the proper formation and sizes of letters in school, completing the practice pages for numbers and lower-case letters. Now your child can keep this workbook at home to work on during remote days! He or she can complete any pages that were missed. Starting on page 31, students can complete a practice page each day until they have completed all of the upper-case letters.
Thank you to the families who have caught up on IXL! It really is a valuable learning and diagnostic tool. When utilized regularly, it gives me great data, showing the standards that your child has mastered versus skills or concepts that your child may need help with. I give "yellow star" suggestions each week, after teaching specific skills, so it's best to stay caught up with those assignments each and every week!
We do not have school on Tuesday, March 9th, unfortunately, as it was a planned day off for voting. There will not be any assignments on Seesaw. It is a teacher workshop day for me, and a day off for the students.
The 2nd trimester is coming to a close. Report cards will be going home at the end of the month, on March 26th. If you have any questions or concerns about your child's progress, or you simply want to chat about your student, I'd be happy to meet! Please reach out if you'd like to schedule something.
Fondly,
Mrs. Willard
