I could not be more happy and grateful to be back with the students!!! Thank you so much to all of you for everything you are doing to help us stop the spread and keep school going. Learning together is so much better!
Your children have settled back into their "normal" school routines this week, and they are totally impressing me with their hard work. We finished Everyday Math Unit 3 and completed the unit assessment. This week, we worked on the short e sound, and we did a bunch of reading and writing about community helpers.
We learned how to make our work better by getting feedback and then doing more drafts of our work, attending to more details. Students each drew a hen and wrote a sentence about it. They all got specific suggestions from their peers - like "Maybe you should make the head bigger," or "Adding some background color would look good." Then they did a second draft to see how much their work improved. I was so proud of their progress!
Next week we will start Unit 4 in math, which is all about measuring length and addition fact fluency. We will be moving into Wonders Unit 2 Week 2 next week too. The essential question is "What buildings do you know? What are they made of?" We will be focusing on the short u sound for spelling, and we will learn 5 new sight words: live, one, could, three, then.
I will be working on report cards tomorrow, and they will be sent home on the 14th and 15th of December. We are beginning our second trimester of school, so we will have new specials starting next week. On Monday and Tuesday we are back with Mrs. Winchell for P.E. class! Please be sure your student has appropriate shoes for gym days. Thank you!
Warm Wishes,Jess Willard
